Dealing with the elements is a given for an outdoor photographer, particularly during the unpredictable months of spring in central South Dakota. Wind. Clouds. Fog. Rain. Shadows. Snow. There is almost always something to battle. Occasionally the rare opportunity presents itself when everything aligns. This shot was captured prior to sunrise immediately following the blue-winged teal’s arrival on the pond making splashes behind the gadwall.

This morning was one of Bill's more successful as he was able to snap photos of a variety of birds on the water that morning, taking full advantage of the cooperating ducks and elements.
