Probably one of the most beautiful ducks in the area, the wood duck can be difficult to photograph. They are more skittish than many of the other waterfowl. Bill scouted these drakes in central South Dakota the night prior to this shoot. Sneaking in undetected before dawn, he waited patiently for daylight. At first it was a foggy morning, but after about four hours, the sun cut through the fog, highlighting the drakes' vibrant colors on perfectly calm waters.
