A tip from a friend led Bill to this rare beauty: a leucistic white-tailed doe. She was reported in an area in northern South Dakota thick with old oaks, a stream, and a general mystical feel. Determined to find her, Bill planned a few days in the area. Bill is strategic when tracking down an animal. Knowing deer typically move around sundown, Bill wanted plenty of time to scout the area. This generally results in extra time to explore other locations and wildlife. as was the case on this day, he relocated to a different section of land, looking for belted kingfishers as they hunted in nearby water.

Despite being two miles from where she was originally spotted, she serendipitously showed up behind Bill to drink from a stream. He was able to get out ahead of the deer as he made her way to better grazing areas - allowing him to snap just a few good shots before disappearing again.
